Since 1962, the Italian brand Flos has brought together a multitude of icons belonging to the history of design. It was founded by Dino Gavina and Cesare Cassina for the production of modern lamps. They then called on the Castiglioni brothers, Achille and Pier Giacomo, and Tobia Scarpa to develop new ideas. At the same time, the brand discovered new talents such as Philippe Starck in 1988. From this first collaboration was born the Miss Sissi bedside lamp, made of plastic and a cult object.

The list of talented designers working with Flos has since grown. The brand is also known for combining the creativity of these designers with experimental materials and technologies. The “cocoon” material is one of these experiments, a plastic resin developed in the USA and used by Flos with the Gatto lamp. Another example is the Skygarden designer pendant lamp which combines an aluminum dome and plaster bas-reliefs.

Subsequently, Flos’ creations won various awards including five Compas d’Oro, one of the most prestigious design awards. The most famous Flos lamps are also exhibited at the MoMA museum, where a room is entirely dedicated to them.
