Lighting is such a wide term, that it is generally tough for consumers to focus on the essentials and judge the true cost-quality ratio.
Here are the basic information you need to know, to make sure you buy the right quality at the right price!
Technology
LED or Halogen
(LED uses less electricity for 10x times higher power)
Base
Depends on the type of lamp the bulb needs to be installed (E27, E14, GU10, G9, etc.)
Power
Electrical power the bulb is using (1W LED = 10W Halogen)
Lumen
Measure of the total amount of visible light (to the human eye) from the light source. The higher the lumen rating the “brighter” the lamp will appear.
Temperature
Measure that indicates the hue of the light source. The lesser the amount, the closer it is to sunlight. The higher it is, the colder it appears.
Angle
At which the light is emitted.
CRI
Indicates how accurate is the light source at rendering colors. The higher it is, the most accurate it is, 100 being the sunlight.
IP
Indicates if the light is waterproof and at what level. Water protection applies from a rating of 40.
MacAdam step
Describes the color precision of a light source. 3 step being the most accurate, 2 step can be acceptable too.
Energy efficiency
The better the rating, the more efficient and the less money wasted.
Diffusor
Also called a light diffuser or optical diffuser. Is any material that diffuses or scatters light in some manner to transmit soft light.
Dimmable
Dimmers are devices connected to a light fixture and used to lower the brightness of light. By changing the voltage waveform applied to the lamp, it is possible to lower the intensity of the light output.
