Theia, launched by Marset in 2016, gets its name from the Greek goddess believed to be the mother of both the Sun and the Moon. Therefore, the spherical shapes of Theia are reminiscent of the brightest elements of the sky. During the design process, designer Mathias Hahn wanted to not only focus on light, but also shadows, because they are inseparable – besides a beautiful, versatile light, Theia also casts well considered, soft shadows. Theia’s appearance can be altered from bright, direct light to subtle, indirect light by rotating its metal lampshade around its axel. This extraordinary luminaire has a smoke-coloured plastic shade that adds a dreamy touch to its lights and shadows.
